REDEMPTION

What is redemption? The Word redemption in greek is Apolutrõsis and this means RANSOM IN FULL or DELIVERANCE. That simply means every time you come across the word redemption in the scriptures what should come across your mind is Deliverance or “Ransom”. Let’s look at an example; Colossians 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

In the scripture above if we replace the word “redemption” with the word “deliverance” gives the scripture a better meaning i.e., Colossians 1:14 In whom we have “deliverance” through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

This scripture makes us understand that we have deliverance through the blood and also forgiveness of sin through his blood.

Now the question should be what then did God deliver us from? Let’s take a look at the preceding verse Colossians 1:13 Who hath “delivered” us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

So we’ve been delivered from the darkness which is sin and death and we’ve been made sons of God.

Let’s see one more scripture on how the word redemption is used; Romans 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Here we can see that the word ransom is a better fit here, also Justified means to be “innocent”. Romans 3:24 Being “made Innocent” freely by his grace through the “Ransom paid/deliverance” that is in Christ Jesus:

This is the good news; the ransom has been paid and you’ve been delivered!

The ransom is the blood of Jesus

Jesus is the ransom, price, and atonement
